Amid high international interest in sustainable development, CJ Logistics also actively supports the UN’s SDGs and is making concentrated efforts to practice shared value for the achievement of the SDGs in each sector. In July 2016, CJ Logistics joined the United Nations Global Compact (UNCC) — a voluntary corporate initiative that promotes Corporate Social Responsibility — and has been cooperating with the UN in a variety of areas while observing 10 principles regarding human rights, labor, environment and anti-corruption.

| “Parcel Delivery Grandpa Is Here”; Silver Delivery Works Together with Local Communities

CJ Logistics' “Senior Parcel Delivery” is widely regarded as a representative case of expanding the scope of sustainable development based on a company's business activities. In 2017, Senior Parcel Delivery led CJ Logistics to become South Korea’s first company to be included in Fortune’s ‘Change the World’ list of 50 companies. In addition, British business magazine The Economist also featured Senior Parcel Delivery as a representative case of creating jobs for senior citizens in South Korea's rapidly aging society. Additionally, in 2015 and 2017, Senior Parcel Delivery won the CSV Porter Prize in recognition of its contribution to creating shared value.



Senior Parcel Delivery is a program whereby elderly deliverymen aged over 60 deliver packages to their neighbors using eco-friendly electric carts based on delivery centers established in dense residential areas such as apartment complexes and other housing areas. Participants in this program have a high level of satisfaction because it guarantees steady income for them by creating quality senior jobs needed for an aging society and helps them build social relations based on their respective local communities. In addition, local residents also gladly receive packages delivered by seniors in their local society, and consequently, Silver Delivery invigorates local communities as well.

Silver Delivery has been chosen as an exemplary creation of shared value (CSV) case for projects in the categories of ▲No Poverty, ▲Decent Work and Economic Growth, ▲Climate Action and ▲Partnerships for the Goals, of all 17 SDGs. In May of last year, Senior Parcel Delivery was chosen as an excellent example of the SDGs initiative in recognition of its contribution to improving the elderly job issues, and it was also listed on the UN's official website for acquiring SMART certification. In July of last year, CJ Logistics received the UN SDGs Corporate Fulfillment Award, which is given to the company that has performed the best in sustainability management activities in a given year.

The UN's SDG Summit 2019, which took place in New York this past September, was attended by government delegations from 130 countries for in-depth discussion about sustainable development. The 2019 official website of the UN's SDG Summit introduced Senior Parcel Delivery’s specific execution model, praising it as one of the most important SDGs projects in the world.



The website introduced not only the case of Senior Parcel Delivery but also introduced CJ Logistics’ “Forest Tending Project” and “Fine Dust Reduction Campaign” as exemplary cases of sustainable management. In particular, the campaign is to reduce fine dust level, which CJ Logistics has been conducting it as nation-wide campaign for supporting the SDGs for the UN since May of 2019, has garnered great attention. It is a public campaign intended for all South Korean people to insert a message encouraging reduction of fine dust onto labels attached to the 1.22 billion package boxes delivered in South Korea per year. It has been acknowledged as an effective large-scale eco-friendly promotion campaign that can expose the message to each household at least once a week for 1 year. 

In addition, CJ Logistics is making various efforts to contribute to the achievement of the UN’s SDGs, including implementation of eco-friendly green logistics that makes a use of eco-friendly electric delivery equipment through cooperation with South Korea’s government and local governments and adopting a fair trade compliance program for the establishment of a sound, transparent corporate culture.
