Affection for companion animals has broadened the pet care industry
The pet-loving population has not just increased solely in Korea. As the time spent indoors has increased, more and more people across the world have begun welcoming animals into their homes. There is even a new name coined for these animals, pandemic puppies. The more people care for their pets, the faster the growth of the pet care industry becomes. This increase will only accelerate further as many products and services are launched one after another, not just for food, but also for health, fashion, leisure, and even insurance.

The growth in the pet care industry is evident in the volume of delivery shown in CJ Logistics big data. This has allowed us to see how much animal loving families care for their pets. The Daily Life Report 2020-21 even showed an interesting fact in that the increase in the volume of clothing purchased for animals was higher than that for people. This is backed by figures that show how the amount of clothes people bought for themselves rose by 19%, while the amount of clothes they bought for pets rose by 26%.
Similarly, the number of animal toys they bought grew by 36% compared to the previous year, while snacks and food went up by 44%, and nutritional supplements by 38%. Of all the animal toys purchased, nose walks and sniff balls caught our eye for having increased by whopping 74%. The number of branded products donated to animal shelters also escalated dramatically by 87% compared to the previous year, showing that the love for animals has matured into a social effort to protect animal rights.
