CJ Logistics discovered a Neighborhood Hero who saved a life with CPR, and presented him with a Certificate of Appreciation. CJ Logistics announced on May 23 that it rewarded Kim Heun-soo, a CJ Logistics delivery driver, with a Certificate of Appreciation for saving the life of an elderly man who had collapsed in a public bath, by performing CPR immediately.

Kim, who has worked as a delivery driver for 12 years in Gosan-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do, was taking a sauna at a local bathhouse on April 2 when he heard a big thump nearby. He ran and discovered an elderly man lying on the floor unconscious.

He immediately asked a citizen next to him to call 119 and performed CPR reminding himself of the safety training he learned at a local delivery office. He then continued to perform CPR until 119 officers arrived at the scene as instructed by a 119 operator through the phone call. The patient, who was transferred to a hospital nearby by ambulance, reportedly recovered quickly and was discharged from the hospital.

What enabled Kim to save the precious life with CPR calmly and quickly even in the middle of the urgent situation was the safety training provided by the CJ Logistics delivery office for delivery drivers. Kim said, “This was first time encountering such a situation so I was afraid at first but thought that I must perform CPR when I saw the man lying on the floor. I tried to remember and perform CPR using what I learned from the CPR class. I realized the importance of golden time when I saw him react instantly to CPR.”

He also acts as a safety guardian for the rural town he is responsible for. Since he travels around the same area daily to deliver parcels, he has reportedly built a close relationship with local elderly people, saying hello, and checking on their health.
